Traditional linear economy sees products and materials made, used and then disposed of – but a circular economy aims to recover and regenerate these resources at the ‘end’ of their life.
Waste management and recycling clearly plays a big part in this, and SWR works with key partners within its supply chain to maximise opportunities for ‘closing the loop’.
According to the UK’s Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP), moving towards a circular economy will:
- reduce waste
- drive greater resource productivity
- deliver a more competitive UK economy
- position the UK to better address emerging resource security/scarcity issues in the future.
- help reduce the environmental impacts of our production and consumption in both the UK and abroad.
The UK hopes to reach circularity through voluntary agreements rather than new EU regulation, and as a founding supporter of WRAP, SWR works closely with the programme and it’s signatories to support these aims.
