SWR is supporting Naomi House & Jacksplace

Naomi House

2017 marks SWR’s 10th anniversary; as part of our celebrations the team would like to give something back to our local community and have selected Naomi House & Jacksplace as our chosen charity for the year. We’re trying to raise as much as possible – £20,000 is the target! To get there some of the team are doing a 26 mile walk, others the Gauntlet Games, Andy is training for a 100 mile bike ride, as well as gardening at the hospice and cake sales… you name it we will do it!

Naomi House and Jacksplace hospices provide expert care to more than 340 children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions around Hampshire, Wiltshire, Dorset, Berkshire, West Sussex, Surrey and the Isle of Wight. Their nursing, care, play and family support teams are experts in delivering crucial, emotional, spiritual and developmental aspects of care that families need when a child or young person has a serious diagnosis. As well as the excellent facilities at the hospice itself, Naomi House and Jacksplace has a team 165 expert staff and relies on a network of more than 850 volunteers. But this level of care comes at a cost – some £7m a year of which 90% they have to find each year.

Lisa Congdon, New Business development fundraiser at Naomi House, said: “We are delighted SWR picked our charity to support during 2017. We rely heavily on local businesses just like SWR to support our fundraising and ensure we deliver the very best care to local children, young people and families on good days, difficult days and last days.”

So far SWR’s team has committed to 3 fundraising events and training is underway:

Gauntlet Games: 10K Obstacle Couse, Saturday 13 May

SWR’s bravest will be tackling this wet and muddy course covering 10k of giant inflatables, slides and water obstacles against the clock.

Clarendon Way Walk: 26 miles from Salisbury Cathedral to Winchester Cathedral, Sunday 4 June

SWR’s team of 12 will join 1000 walkers tackling the historic, cross-country route from Salisbury across to Winchester, a walking marathon!

Ride London: 100 mile Bike Ride, Sunday 30 July

Following the same route as the 2012 Olympic event this cycling challenge will be tough…

In Andy’s own words: “There is no point sugar coating this… I am a big lad and I have terrible knees! Just to give you a feel for the 100 mile course: it starts at the Olympic Park, past Canary Wharf, through the City, over the Thames at Chiswick, through Richmond, Hampton Court, and out into the Surrey countryside. Having ridden South we then go up Leith Hill, through Dorking then hit those infamous zig zags at Box Hill.

After that we simply head North again – through Leatherhead, Oxshott and Esher back into London over Putney Bridge along the Embankment, across Parliament Square, up Whitehall, over Trafalgar Square under Admiralty Arch and finish on The Mall!”

Details of more events to follow.
