PizzaExpress adds to sustainability credentials with new SWR waste management contract
PizzaExpress has appointed SWR to deliver recycling and waste management to over 300 of its UK restaurants in order to significantly increase on-site recycling levels to over 85%.
PizzaExpress has appointed Specialist Waste Recycling Ltd. (SWR) to deliver recycling and waste management services to over 300 of its UK restaurants – all of PizzaExpress’ sites where recycling isn’t determined by a landlord or the local council.
Focusing on a unique blend of food waste, glass, cardboard and general waste collections, the approach significantly reduces the volume of general waste and increases on-site recycling levels to over 85%. It also improves the quality of any residual waste, enabling further off-site segregation to take place and maximising recycling opportunities at every level.
SWR specialises in waste management and recycling solutions for the hospitality sector, partnering with the British Hospitality Association and Sustainable Restaurant Association.
Guy Croot, Head of Distribution at Pizza Express said, “We’re committed to significantly increasing our levels of recycling. Last year the Sustainable Restaurant Association awarded us one star which, for a brand of our size, is a huge achievement. Working with SWR is a great way to build on our commitment to sustainability.”
SWR’s CEO, Andy Butler, commented, “We are delighted to add such a well-established and much-loved brand to our growing client list. Our creativity in delivering such a ground breaking solution to PizzaExpress, and on such a large scale, has re-emphasised our commitment to the hospitality sector in a significant way.”
Listed by the CIWM as the UK’s fastest growing national waste management company for the third successive year, SWR focuses on delivering sustainable waste management solutions to market sectors identified as having needs that are often not met by the majority of the waste industry.
Excellent customer service and investment in information technology underpin everything SWR does.
SWR works with businesses to:
- Increase sustainable waste disposal
- Reduce the internal cost and hassle of managing waste
- Provide reporting to demonstrate environmental credentials to stakeholders
- Educate and promote environmentally sustainable behaviour and processes
- SWR brings together the best elements of service available in the industry and delivers them under one contract, no matter what the type of waste is.
SWR also owns Smash & Grab – a company that makes an innovative glass crushing machine. The Smash & Grab machine is delivered as part of SWR’s overall waste management service to customers in the hospitality sector without the need for either capital investment or leasing agreements.
The SWR approach has proved very successful in a wide variety of business sectors including hospitality, food waste, retail, facilities management and automotive.
